At The X-Files Office (Morgan Attn: Mulder/Scully)

She was a little hesitant to go into the office without Mulder and Scully there at first. Once discovering the door was unlocked, however, she decided if they weren't trying to keep her out, it must be fine for her to go in. It was important to get off on the right foot with them. Her time in VCU had been tainted by a partner who despised having a green, female agent paired with him. And there were some personal questions she hoped she might be able to ask Mulder and Scully one day.

As she looked around the room, her eyes fell on the poster on the wall. I Want To Believe. The UFO looked nothing like the lights she had seen almost a decade ago, but she found herself intrigued with it none the less. She crossed the room to get a better look at the pictures and articles tacked on the bullention board beside it. UFOs, Bigfoot, ghosts, spontaneous human combustion, witchcraft.... either this whole division was insane or she was about to start the greatest adventure of her life.

It wasn't long before she had made her way to the filing cabinet. Curiosity got both the cat and the Kit this time. This was going to be her office too now, and it wouldn't hurt to get familiarized with the kind of stuff she'd be seeing in the field. Of course, she was really looking for information about UFOs and alien abductions, but she would put it under the banner of work research.

Of course, the files were arranged by case number, not by phenomena or keyword and it took a good ten minutes before she got to a case about abduction phenomena in a town called Bellefleur, Oregon. She sat down in a chair in front of Mulder's desk and started reading the file, her brow creased with concentration as she read what she soon found out was the first case after Scully had joined the unit.

After the revelation Skinner had shared with them, Mulder's sense of distrust had been heightened. It was for this reason when he walked into the office to find Morgan reading a file at his desk, that his first reaction was, "What the hell are you doing?"
kit_morgan on September 4th, 2008 05:29 pm (UTC)
Morgan jumped slightly at the sound of Mulder's voice. Great, she'd gotten off on the wrong foot with him after all. Smooth move Kit, she told herself, curiosity killed your cat, didn't it?

"I thought I'd familairize myself with the kind of cases the division handles." Kit held up the folder she was reading. "This is the case from Bellefluer, Oregon. Is it...is it common in alien abductions for the person to wake up and find themselves not in their beds anymore?"
Fox Muldermulder1013 on September 4th, 2008 06:56 pm (UTC)
Mulder cleared his throat, already feeling chagrined by his outburst as he approached her. She was, after all, showing an interest in what they investigated. And if he wanted to find out more about her, he wouldn't get anywhere by making his distrust of her so blatant.

"Of course, sorry," he mumbled quickly. "And to answer your question, yes, it is common for abductees to either recall being in their beds at the time of their abductions or waking up to find they've been taken from their beds."
kit_morgan on September 4th, 2008 10:07 pm (UTC)
"I see," A line appeared on Kit's brow and there was a slight cast of fear in her light eyes. "So it wouldn't be out of place for an abductee to wake up in say, a field, not knowing how they got there?"

She cleared her throat slightly and gave him a sheepish smile. "I hope I don't annoy you with alot of questions, but I do have alot of them. In the past few months I've taken an interest in the paranormal, but it seems like the more I read the more I don't know. That's why this assignment was so surprising...that a few months after I started studying a subject the FBI wants to put me in the branch that investigates it...it's borderlining on eerie."
Fox Mulder: b&wmulder1013 on September 4th, 2008 10:19 pm (UTC)
Mulder looked at Scully when Morgan mentioned the timing. Perhaps she really was as puzzled by her assignment as they were. Or maybe it was part of the plan to make him think that.

"It wouldn't be out of place, no," he said, answering her question. He'd picked up on her fear and wondered how open she'd be to getting asked a few questions of her own. "Why do you ask?"
kit_morgan on September 4th, 2008 10:37 pm (UTC)
The look of fear now bloomed across Kit's pale face and for a moment she seemed to freeze. In her mind's eye she could hear her father yelling at her, feel the sting of his blow, telling her she must never mention the lights again. Then she remembered the day he might have died. What she had done with her hands.

"I...um..." She looked down at her hands, the white lines still there. Slight, but visible. Fear and confusion crowded out all rational thought for a panicky moment, then she forced it back down.

Behind her, one of the lights hanging from the ceiling exploded, casting the office in a dimmer light.

Startled, Mulder jumped and instinctively reached for Scully. "You okay?" he asked her.
kit_morgan on September 5th, 2008 05:34 pm (UTC)
Morgan didn't jump when the light exploded behind her, but she did flinch. She closed her eyes for a moment and took a deep breath. It wasn't the first time lights had blown out around her. During her adolescant years there was a period where all sorts of things like that happened. And then it stopped for years, until the day of her father's death. Supposed death.

"Curiosity got the best of me," She finally opened her eyes and looked at Mulder, a mixture of sheepishness and sadness in her eyes. "I wasn't going to mention anything until I got to know you both. Because there's questions I have that I need answered. As I said, that's why this assignment was a surprise to me. But perhaps an answer to my prayers too."

"I guess it's sooner rather then later." She finally let her eyes go over to the light that had exploded, frowning at the fixture. "Is...is it safe to talk here?"
Fox Mulder: Fed Plazamulder1013 on September 7th, 2008 02:22 am (UTC)
Mulder narrowed his eyes at her, then slowly nodded his head. "We swept for bugs this morning," he admitted. "You can speak freely."

Either this girl was very good at what she did, or there was really something here. The thing with the light had definitely taken him by surprise. He'd seen that sort of phenomenon before, but he wanted to hear what Morgan had to say.
kit_morgan on September 7th, 2008 02:35 am (UTC)
"I have a lifetime full of questions," A shadow crossed Kit's features as she looked down at her hands again, the white lines still there, barely visible, but still there. "I'm afraid to start asking questions because someone very close to me died several months ago, and sometimes I think I might be next."

Swallowing hard, she looked up to Mulder. "For starters, I've seen a UFO. We were in Vancouver, out in the cabin by the coast. I was sitting on the roof looking at the stars. And then these lights came...they were white, in the shape of a triangle. I can see it in my mind getting closer and closer, but I don't remember what happened next. Except the next morning I was told to absolutely never mention it to anyone. And I haven't until today."

Fear moved back into her pale blue eyes and she clenched her hands into fists. "When I found out I was being transfered here, I thought if I found you both to be trustworthy I could see if you had any answers. But today...I saw something...someone...that made me realize I might not have as much time as I think."
Fox Mulder: FBImulder1013 on September 7th, 2008 03:12 am (UTC)
Mulder actually felt a flash of concern now, though the news that someone close to her had died immediately made him think of her seeming connection to the cancerman.

"Who did you see, Kit?" he asked softly.
kit_morgan on September 7th, 2008 03:18 am (UTC)
"Assistant Director Skinner," Kit replied, then hurried to add. "Not that I think he was a part of it. Hell, I called it in to VCU myself. But I don't believe in coincidence...."

She bit her lip for a moment. "Four months ago my father died. He was murdered. There's more to that, but for now I'll say I walked in shortly after it happened. Afterwards, I panicked. I thought they would be coming for me next. I was outside the building, in the alley, when AD Skinner approached me."

"He said he would bring an EMT over to look at my hands...they were bleeding. Cut." She held them up so he could see the faint white lines diagonally crossing each palm. "I ran. I didn't know who he was...or if he had been involved."
Fox Mulder: FBImulder1013 on September 7th, 2008 06:30 am (UTC)
Mulder's eyes widened at that revelation, his mind racing a million miles an hour. For now, he wouldn't mention that Skinner had told them about seeing her in the alley. Perhaps she wouldn't know that he had recognized her.

"Kit, who was your father?"
kit_morgan on September 7th, 2008 05:38 pm (UTC)
"I've been asking myself that for the last four months," Kit frowned deeply, looking down at her hands again. "My father told me he worked for the government and because of his work he had to use alot of aliases. But there has to be a real name in there somewhere..." She trailed off, shaking her head a little.

"I don't know." Her eyes, so very much like the eyes of the Cancerman, turned back up to Mulder. "I don't know for sure who my father is, or even what he does. But I'm certain now he's been trying to hide things from me. My whole life."

She traced the line on her palm with one finger, wondering if she should tell Mulder what had happened inside the apartment the day her father died. Or she thought he died.
Fox Muldermulder1013 on September 9th, 2008 01:44 am (UTC)
The more she spoke about the man who was her father, the worse Mulder began to feel about it. There was a sick feeling in his stomach as he looked at her and searched for a resemblance. When he finally saw it, it was like a punch to the gut. He needed to get Scully alone as soon as he could to discuss this.

"What kinds of things?" he asked numbly.
kit_morgan on September 9th, 2008 02:02 am (UTC)
"My growing up wasn't typical," Kit took a deep breath, watching Mulder closely. Her eyes were the same as her father's, but the expression was different. Hers held a soft, inquisitive look, not a trace of his hashness. "There's so much I can't explain and when I've asked him, the answers seem to fall short."

She leaned forward a little, an intent expression on her face. "Something's wrong with my memories, there's things I can't remember..."

A locked slipped out of her blouse and came into view. It was a worn silver heart. On the back was etched "SM", the initals, she assumed, of who had worn it before her. A sad expression crossed her face as she took it into her hand and looked down at it.

"My mother, for instance," She swallowed hard, feeling pain suddenly flare in her chest. "She died when I was three, so I should be able to remember her even just a little bit, right? But I don't. Not at all. And my father always got very angry when I would ask questions about her. I've never even seen a picture of her...."

Tears suddenly welled up into her eyes. She swatted them away with the back of her hand impatiently . "Sorry...I-I just...I haven't been allowed to speak of her for so long...."
